PCT sets up MMR vaccination Clinics
14/02/2005
Following a recent increase in cases of Mumps in the county, West Gloucestershire PCT is taking the pro-active step of offering young people aged between 16-25 an opportunity to receive MMR vaccination if they are not or are unsure that they are fully vaccinated.
Nurse led clinics, run by the PCT, are being established in Gloucester and the Forest of Dean and further information on times and locations will be publicised via the media later this week.
Director of Public Health, Dr Hugh Annett said:
"The current situation is a reminder that young people need the protection that MMR offers. MMR is the best way to protect against mumps, especially when we know it is circulating in schools and in the community. The PCT has taken the decision to establish the clinics to help keep young people safe."
Other provision is being put in place for children under the age of 16, including school nurse clinics.
